Hobbies
My tutoring style is unusual. I specialize in teaching others, including gifted young writers, how to self-edit their work. That means all students I tutor must be dedicated to getting material written before we meet, so we have material to edit. If you have a child who is a reluctant or unmotivated writer, a different tutor would be best for that. I do better with those who already love to write and want to (or are willing to) learn how to improve their writing, either for education or publication. I try to keep a sense of humor when I work with my students. I also try to bring out each student's own writing style, while also teaching them how to write more clearly and concisely. I have loved being told by some of my students that they now find themselves editing their friends' or siblings' works. They tell me they are teaching others how to self-edit! Very exciting. I am a mom of three grown children. One is at App State University; another is married and is an early childhood education teacher/admin; the third is a pilot who also sells high-tech medical devices. My children were educated via a mix of homeschooling, public schooling, and international schooling (for several years in Norway). This all led to some creative ways I supplemented their education as they grew up.
