I am a graduate of Appalachian State University with double majors in Psychology and Spanish. I graduated with a cumulative GPA of 3.51, a Spanish GPA of 3.8 and a Psychology GPA of 3.1. During my final semester I enrolled in a graduate-level course on bilingualism and second language acquisition, and completed a research project on non-native speakers' production of Spanish phrases.
Experience
I worked as a tutor for over two years at the university through the official tutoring center. I taught varying levels of Spanish - from beginning levels to advanced grammar and conversation, introductory and behavioral psychology, and elementary algebra. I was named as tutor of the month in September 2014, and maintained a schedule with at least 20 students every week. I have traveled to Spain before for immersion experiences with the language, and placed into advanced/major-level classes during my freshman year of college. I would like to be a professor at the university level, and enjoy helping students understand the subject material and helping them find their own interest in the subjects. I enjoy working with individuals and small groups and love getting to know each person that I am working with so that I can tailor their tutoring experience so that they get the most out of it. I like to employ a variety of learning styles and make the subject matter relevant to each person. I enjoy fostering a creative environment for myself and for others, and enjoy getting to know different kinds of people. I enjoy learning from other people as well! I like to keep my interactions open, light-hearted, and enjoyable, and make sure that each person that I work with leaves a session with no questions and more confidence about what they are learning. I absolutely love people and love to keep things positive. I do like to consider myself an open-minded person and, when it comes to academics, attempt to have as much patience and passion as possible to help others succeed. There is nothing quite like seeing someone light up when they understand something or when they are happy.

Hobbies
In my free time, I enjoy expressing myself through art and photography. I love to knit and stay busy creating different things. I also enjoy running, yoga, and reading! I would like to travel around the world in my lifetime and take in as much as I can from other people and cultures. My biggest life goal is to hike the Camino de Santiago in the northern part of Spain, and see Patagonia in the southern part of Argentina. In the near future I hope to enroll in graduate school and continue on to doctoral studies in Hispanic linguistics. I would like to combine psychology and Spanish and eventually teach in a university where I can combine those fields. I love making people laugh and seeing them happy, and making jokes! Basically whatever I can do to lead a fun life where I am always learning and discovering new things.
