I can teach any student how to write concise, impactful and persuasive content. Too often, a student will allow the written words to command him, resulting in prose that is lengthy, formal, and boring. A good writer is always aware of word count, and learns to make every word work for its place in the piece. Words are tools that we use to say something important. If they are not doing that, we do not use them. For young students, we often read aloud what we have written, and pretend that we are saying our words to someone very important, such as the President of the United States. This exercise, along with a time limit, forces us to say it like we mean it. I also have an excellent approach geared toward the reluctant writer. Many high school topics are chosen by the instructor and, at first glance, may seem very boring. However, I can help the student find that special personal "angle" that can bring the essay alive. Whether you are comparing/contrasting Gollum and Frodo (Lord of the Rings) or arguing for stricter gun laws, your special angle will set your writing apart and will engage your teacher's interest. I can work with students very easily online via email. I can edit quickly and I am available days, evenings, and weekends with a quick turn-around. For younger students, exchanging edits/revisions is an excellent process of learning sentence structure and grammar and is critical for high school and college writing, when grammatical errors often cost the student 1 or 2 letter grades. Theme development is often the greatest problem I see in essays. Without clear and meaningful progression of thought and good supporting evidence, your paper will say nothing. I can keep the student on track with their ideas, and help them avoid a huge writing trap: rabbit trails, which are ideas wandering through our writing that lead to nowhere. Your student will have an A paper if they work with me!
