Hobbies
Hi. My name is Sharon and I am very excited for the opportunity to provide tutoring/mentoring to you. I am a former social work professor who also found that teaching essay writing, editing and public speaking was critical to the success of my students. I absolutely have a passion for working with university students and find that my license in clinical social work also becomes useful when devising strategies to overcome test anxiety etc. I also find that my training is useful when it comes to forming relationships with a wide range of individuals with a wide range of interests. Some people ask why I enjoy tutoring/mentoring so much. I view learning as a life long endeavor and find myself the recipient of so much knowledge from the students with whom I work. As such, I believe that learning should be enjoyable and should stimulate curiosity. I really like when my students can actually experience what is read in the textbook. For instance, having the student learn about cognitive behavioral theory (CBT) by teaching a dog to sit. I believe when students learn through experience and observation it becomes less of a memory game and is integrated into the realm of knowledge more permanently. So when I am not tutoring or working as a therapist, I enjoy anything artistic/crafty, photography and traveling. Another tidbit: I have been to almost every state in the United States. My most recent trip though was to Costa Rica. Remember to ask me about the wild monkeys! I attended the University of Florida for my undergraduate studies and am a HUGE Gator fan! Yes, my casual attire during the Fall football season matches my enthusiasm. I really love fall. My son attended ECU and is a big Ohio State fan so we all get pretty spirited during football season in my home. I cannot wait to learn about you and how I can best help you to achieve your goals.
